Garda Donohoe

The family of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was shot dead while on duty almost six years ago, has settled a legal action against the State for more than €1m.

The High Court judge dealing with garda compensation cases, approved a settlement of €1.3m in the legal action taken by Garda Donohoe’s widow, Caroline Deloughrey, against the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform.

Det Garda Donohoe was on armed escort duty with a colleague at Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan, Co Louth on 25 January 2013 when he was shot dead.

He was posthumously awarded a Scott Medal for bravery.

Ms Deloughrey, who was herself a garda but retired after the death of her husband, took the action on her own behalf and on behalf of their son and daughter, aged 11 and 12.
