Hollyoaks bosses have been forced to deny allegations that an upcoming storyline, focussing on dangerous events at a fairground, is insensitive to victims of the Alton Towers ‘Smiler’ accident.

Here’s how it all went down…

Earlier today, The Sun suggested that sources on the Channel 4 soap complained about the story, reasoning that airing it would be disrespectful to victims injured from when ‘The Smiler’ crashed in June 2015.

Vicky Balch, 20, Leah Washington, 18, Joe Pugh, 19, and Daniel Thorpe, 28, were all seriously injured when a carriage on the rollercoaster collided with an empty car.
