A Wexford couple and their daughter had a lucky escape when a door from a passing school bus dislodged and smashed into their windscreen.
Pat Creevey and his wife Eileen of Grange, Kilmore were travelling down Hill Street in Wexford on Thursday afternoon when the freak accident occurred.
The couple’s daughter Deirdre. a professional musician, was in the back seat of the car.
Eileen said they were still in shock after the accident. ‘We were just so lucky. If we had been going any faster I don’t like to think what would have happened. We were travelling down Hill Street at around 2.15 p.m. on Thursday. We were only going around 10 or 15 miles per hour because we were looking for place to park as I was going to a meeting in the county hall.
‘Suddenly out of nowhere there was this unmerciful bang. I hadn’t a clue what had happened and the next second the windscreen just came in on top of us. We think part of the luggage door or the engine door became loose and dislodged from the bus and flew up and hit the windscreen.
